Meet Chinmayi

Dr. Chinmayi is a contemporary fine artist, author, educator, and designer whose work masterfully explores the intersection of emotion, colour, and texture. Driven by a deep passion for both contemporary Indian and Western art, she works across diverse surfaces and mediums, creating pieces that resonate deeply with the human experience.

Her artistic inspiration draws from nature, landscapes, emotions, Indian heritage, and the rich tradition of palm leaf etching. Each painting is a narrative, bridging cultures and feelings through diverse styles—ranging from realistic portraits and landscapes to contemporary abstract expressions and traditional Indian forms. Chinmayi’s commitment to quality ensures every piece is created using museum-grade materials designed to remain vibrant for generations.

Beyond her studio, academically, Chinmayi holds a PhD in Geology from Utkal University, India, and a Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design from the University of the Arts, London, UK. Based in Essex, she has exhibited widely across the UK and internationally over the past two decades.

Her multifaceted career includes commissioned art projects, writing, book design, delivering comprehensive art workshops for all skill levels and exploring jewellery and fabric art. A significant area of expertise is the ancient palm leaf etching art of India, which she explored through her published work, “Expressing & Experimenting with Palm Leaf Art,” a resource now housed in the British Library.

Behind the Canvas

Creative Process

01

Inspiration

Every painting begins with an emotion — a fleeting moment of beauty observed in nature, a colour harmony that demands to be explored.

02

Composition

Thumbnail sketches and colour studies establish the mood and structure. This phase is about finding the perfect balance of elements.

03

Creation

Working with premium oils on Belgian linen canvas, each piece develops through layers of colour, texture and light over days or weeks.

04

Refinement

The final stage involves stepping back, living with the painting, and making subtle adjustments until every element sings in harmony.
